Discover the Magic of Dia Island

Dia Island is a small, uninhabited island located about 7.5 kilometers (6 miles) off the northern coast of Crete, Greece. Known for its rugged, natural beauty, it is part of the Heraklion region and is easily accessible by boat from the nearby port of Heraklion, the island’s capital. Dia Island is about 5 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide, offering a tranquil escape from the bustle of Crete’s mainland.

The island is famous for its striking landscapes, with rocky cliffs, hidden coves, and pristine beaches. Its crystal-clear waters – blue green and exotic- are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving, attracting marine life such as fish, octopuses, and sea turtles. The island is a protected nature reserve, home to various bird species, and its rich biodiversity makes it a perfect spot for nature lovers and eco-tourism. The bottom of the sea in Dia is full of archeological findings and while you scuba you can discover and observe all the hidden treasures.

Although uninhabited, the island has historical significance, with evidence of ancient settlements and archaeological findings that suggest it may have been used as a religious site in antiquity. Visitors often arrive by boat on a catamaran cruise or other private charters, where they can enjoy not only the island’s natural beauty but also the peaceful atmosphere. While Dia Island does not have modern amenities or infrastructure, its charm lies in its untouched and secluded environment, making it a popular destination for day sailing trips and adventure seekers.
